All muffled now the muted plea,
Long lost to swirled uncertainty,
Of branches hanging cold and brown,
Consumed, awaiting Springtime’s gown.
The weather-beaten trellis falls,
The autumn wind sweeps over all;
But something in the sighing lands
Is holding longing in its hands.
The windy whispers falling down,
Grayish echoes of a distant town,
Now vague amid the scratching leaves,
As silently as one who grieves.
There is a distant passerby:
The summer fading from the sky,
Dancing devilish on the hill,
Out-driven by a stronger will.
Alas, is gone that faithful friend
Whose company would daily lend;
Aloft in regions far away,
A stranger till some distant day.
The restless soul amends its pace
And cannot but its life retrace;
And drawn in heart toward better times,
It waits the rain from heaven’s climes.

You have a very interesting style, very old world. You’re quite gifted. How long have you been writing if you don’t mind me asking?
Genevieve! Thanks so much for reading more of my poetry! I started writing about 8 years ago. I didn’t really get into poetry though until about 4 years ago. How about you?
I started writing poetry around age 17. After I went off to college, I was pretty busy and generally distracted and did not write for awhile. My mom would always implore me to start again. I did a little in the latter part of my college years, but lost track of it again with motherhood and being married. I did not pick it up again until after I divorced and fell in love again, but I did not write with some vigilence until June of ‘06 when I began feeling so immersed in none other than our old friend, mediocrity. Writing is a great escape- you can go in your spirit wherever you dream. “There were rainbows to catch, castles to explore, princes with roses and kisses galore..”
And so my mother would be happy that I am at it again! I can’t see slowing down either; it is a true love of my life, something I will always have, and do completely for my own enjoyment.
I have a couple coffee table books and people keep telling me to publish, but I haven’t quite gotten around to setting it in motion. But I will- any tips would greatly be appreciated! I plan to order copies of your books! Thank you for reading and writing!
Haha, yep our good old friend mediocrity is a great inspiration sometimes to get out and write. It’s really great being able to talk with you, because there aren’t that many people in the world who share a passion for writing. I didn’t know you wrote books! That’s excellent. Publishing is something that’s getting more and more complex these days. There are so many different styles of publishing. I’d love to share whatever I know about it with you. What questions do you have?
Hi Ben! I wouldn’t say I write books, but I am an avid photographer, so I take a photo and find a poem or lines from a poem I wrote and combine them to design the pages. The end product is a 10 x 10 hard cover book. I have done 2- one about beginning to end (of life), and the other is about addiction. They are fairly short reads, only 20 sides. The kicker is the photography as it’s what draws the hand to the reader and serves as a connectng medium even for those not so interested in poetry. However, they were quite pricey to produce as I went through Asuka. I’m not sure how to go about finding a publisher. It’s so hard to trust what one might google these days! Thanks always for your inspiring comments.
That sounds really cool! My dream is similar. I really want to print a book of poetry with hand lettered poems and hand drawn pictures. You’re right, it’s a really powerful medium to combine both poetry and art. And you are more than right about publishers these days. I’d love to send you some more information about what these guys do at Plan B Publishing if you’d like. Even though they’re just starting off, they seem like they’re really on top of things. They’re kind of using my first few books to develop marketing strategies. It’s an odd relationship we have, me being their very first author and all, but I think it’s going to work out well.
That sounds great, I love the idea of two entities helping each other get started. It usually makes for a mutually beneficial relationship. Thank you kindly.
